The International Senior Manager, Complex Accounts works with complex, high risk relationships as defined by our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policy and Account Acceptance rules. This position will support the International Branch Managers and Financial Consultants in understanding the client's business & investment objectives to meet Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, set expectations with the advisor/client, and ensure the appropriate Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and International Enhanced Due Diligence (IEDD) requirements are met both at on-boarding and throughout the life of the account. In addition to the complex account work the Manager will have primary responsibility for individual high risk enhanced due diligence.

The Senior Manager will:

  • Work with International Branch Managers and Financial Consultants to maintain a thorough understanding of the client's line of business, account purpose and/or expected activity at Schwab
  • Ensure due diligence surrounding high risk individuals and foreign individuals satisfies both regulatory and business requirements. Work closely with AML to assess the risks and mitigation steps surrounding high risk individuals
  • Handle in depth International Branch Manager and Financial Consultant interactions to better understand client details and account purpose with advisor/client/branch and request/review additional information to support EDD high risk process
  • Prepare and present cases for business acceptance review groups
  • Serve as a central point of contact for the International Branches to provide acquisition support on new complex accounts and setting expectations around the Know Your Client review conducted during the on-boarding process
  • Collaborate with internal service teams/Financial Consultants, or other personnel, to understand the client's complete relationship at Schwab, including accounts in which the agents or beneficial owners have a role
  • Identify, escalate and help to address issues and potential trends
  • Provide advice and guidance on relevant firm policies
  • Understand the inherent risks associated with complex accounts, higher risk client relationships, and exception requests.
  • Partner with EDD teams to ascertain level of risk to Schwab based on stated purpose, expected activity and structure
  • Assist with ongoing account business risk reviews
  • Proactively identify and actively participate autonomously in projects to completion in support of the team and the business
  • Actively mentor, coach, develop and offer assistance to new and existing team members, service teams, and other partners displaying leadership amongst your peers
  • Assist with Spanish language supervision responsibilities

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience in financial services focused on supervisory, risk, control, or compliance
  • Fluent Spanish is required
  • Series 7 and 9/10 licenses
  • Working knowledge of international entity/trust types, complex structures (including layers) and associated documentation
  • Good knowledge of KYC rules and regulations
  • Experience implementing process improvements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relative experience with risk analysis, compliance or AML processes
  • Ability to influence others through the development of strong working relationships
  • Proven supervision and oversight skills with a working knowledge of industry standards and policies
  • Experience executing both strategic and tactical objectives
  • Good business judgment with ability to balance and explain risk vs reward relationship
  • The ability to work independently, with minimum guidance
  • The ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize based on risk and business needs
  • Good ability to assess regulatory impacts and communicate risk
  • Problem resolution skills with ability to work effectively across departments to resolve issues
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong relationship building skills, including both clients and business partners
