Associate Director - Veeva Platform Application Services Lead

Job Description

Veeva is a new platform being built at Biogen to innovate more effectively, run the business more efficiently, and get to market faster. As “Veeva Platform – Application Services Lead”, you will be a Leader and Product Owner for Veeva Platform Services and will have the ownership of technology architecture, design, best practices, demand prioritization and end-to-end solution delivery for projects, and enhancements with best-in-class quality at enterprise scale across Biogen.

Within the centralized Enterprise Application Services (EAS) IT organization, the “Veeva Platform – Application Services Lead” will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts from R&D Clinical, Safety, Regulatory, and Quality, as well as technical architects and development teams from EAS/BCCI, alongside project managers. This collaboration aims to provide a range of solutions addressing business needs, upgrades, enhancements, new capabilities, and other system development initiatives as requested by customers. Additionally, this role will serve as an advisor to senior leadership and management regarding investment decisions and demand prioritization.

What You’ll Do:

  • Engage with Customers and Stakeholders: Forge strong relationships to gain a deep understanding of requirements and deliver solutions using Agile/SAFe methodologies, dedicating approximately 30% of your time.
  • Lead Solutions Delivery: Direct your team in the design, development, testing, and delivery of high-value Veeva Platform solutions, accounting for 35% of your role.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Offer expertise in architecture and design to ensure robust and scalable solutions, collaborating with EAS/BCCI teams and functional stakeholders.
  • Strategize with Senior Management: Craft strategic proposals for investment in the Veeva Platform, influencing long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Mentor and Develop Teams: Manage team capacity, hire new talent, and provide mentorship to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Prioritize Demands: Review and approve project prioritization based on business value and ROI, while escalating budget and resource needs to higher-level leadership for approval.
  • Navigate Complex Situations: Tackle the challenges of change management across Biogen, leading engagements with IT and business stakeholders to drive clarity and consensus.
  • Champion Agile Leadership: As a Product Owner, gather stakeholder feedback and lead solution delivery following Agile/SAFe principles, often working directly with cross-functional teams.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or a related field preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in Application Services development, delivery, and stakeholder management in the Veeva Platform space, or related areas.
  • 6+ years of experience in IT Project Management, System Enhancements, Support, Consulting, or Product Management.
  • Demonstrated success in leading implementation and/or IT operations.
  • Experience with Life Sciences business process domains with direct experience in one of the Clinical, Safety, Regulatory, or Quality Veeva Vaults.
  • Strong understanding and experience with software implementation.
  • Proven ability to work independently and with teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory impacts (GxP, SOX, etc.) on data and processes in the Life Sciences industry.
  • Quick comprehension of business requirements with the skill to design effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Data or Content Management applications.
  • Veeva certifications (Vault Platform System Administrator, Business Administrator, Platform Configuration).
