BD is on a multi-year journey to become a leader in process excellence by establishing deep capabilities and an accompanying culture across the organization. This effort is being led through the "BD Excellence" (BDE) framework. This position provides strategic HR Business Partner leadership and support to the BD Excellence Leader/Leadership Team and operates as a trusted strategic advisor to the SVP-BD Excellence. Additionally, it partners with the BD Excellence Leadership Team in developing functional capability plans through robust strategic organizational planning, organizational design and development, organization effectiveness, and change management. The incumbent directly creates and executes the people and talent strategy for this newly established central function based on the strategic priorities and influences the absorption of central capabilities on BDE in business and regions by partnering with the HRBPs there. This is an individual contributor role that works closely with the HR leaders in BU/Region/Functions and orchestrates the integrated delivery of HR support to BDE.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Partner with the SVP of BD Excellence to own the HR strategy for this newly created function, including organizational design, hiring world-class talent, and developing a winning culture.
  • Manage relationships with third-party recruiting firms to hire the best and brightest talent from external sources.
  • Collaborate with the SVP to oversee the ongoing development of talent, ensuring associates continue to grow and develop in their roles.
  • Champion BD Excellence within the HR function, serving as a role model for incorporating business processes into HR management.
  • Work directly with BU, functional, and regional teams to ensure key BD Excellence organizational structures and personnel are in place for rapid deployment of BD Excellence programs.
  • Manage the talent assessment and development process, ensuring proper succession planning and an appropriate mix of internal and external hires for newly created roles.
  • Appropriately ramp up the team, hiring the core team first and adding talent at a pace that meets growth expectations and budget constraints.
  • Promote this function as one of the top jobs in BD where people can truly advance their careers.
  • Develop a talent pipeline for the BD Excellence function so there is a continual rotation of team members into the function and then back into business roles, thus bringing their BD Excellence skills into the broader organization.
  • Establish an MBA recruiting program that recruits a select group of MBA graduates into this program for a rotation before moving into the broader BD ecosystem.
  • Provide consultative guidance for compensation and facilitate appropriate compensation reviews.
  • Offer strategic HR advisory support for complex HR issues and activities.

KSA Requirements (Knowledge, Skill, Abilities)

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the HR function.
  • 5+ years of experience in an organization where a business system is part of the culture, with core tools of visual management, problem-solving, and kaizen embedded in all aspects of the business.
  • Significant experience in hiring individuals in an organization where a business system is part of the culture.
  • Experience using the core tools of a business system / lean.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, both in person and virtually, with the ability to hold individuals' attention, create excitement, and hold all team members accountable for outcomes.
  • Change champion with the ability to drive culture and change. BD Excellence is new to BD, and this individual will need to drive the change management journey.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to gain followership and drive results.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work closely with the entire leadership team to drive change, continuous improvement, and engagement throughout the organization.
  • Capacity to plan, organize, and complete projects on time. Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Ability to lead teams and drive change in a matrix organization.
  • Drive a "One HR" approach. Ability to influence and collaborate with COEs and shared services to align on a holistic HR approach to support the business needs.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to drive progress with limited oversight.
  • Action-oriented individual who is highly proactive at solving problems and obtaining results.
  • True love of continuous improvement, measuring results, and problem-solving.
  • Team player who can work well across a global organization.
  • BS/BA degree in Business Administration, HR Management, or a related field required.

Desired Skill / Experience

  • Experience working in a large multinational corporation above $5B in revenue
  • Experience working in Healthcare, Diagnostics, Med Tech or Life Sciences Field
  • International Experience
  • Advanced Degree or MBA preferred
  • HR certification (SPHR / PHR) or equivalent
