Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves and manipulates data, providing assistance to actuaries in the end-to-end rate review process, which includes pulling information from independent rating bureaus (ISO/AAIS/NCCI), file set-up, and review of rate proposals
  • Works within new Guidewire rating platform to update rates in ratebooks and rate tables for execution of rate changes
  • Coordinates with actuaries on rate page changes and execution of rate reviews
  • Continues to develop knowledge of more advanced actuarial methodologies
  • Conducts analyses that adhere to actuarial standards of practice:  selects appropriate data sources and data types, and makes assumptions when data integrity is questionable
  • Documents assumptions, sources, and considerations; organizes documents
  • Notes unreasonable results and non-optimal solutions, investigates, and suggests alternative resolutions
  • Prepares internal memos, documents, and letters as needed.  Communications should be concise, logical, organized, and grammatically correct with the appropriate level of technical terms suitable to the audience

EDUCATION/ KNOWLEDGE:  Bachelor degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related business field with a strong quantitative orientation.  Sound knowledge of insurance terminology and products.

SKILLS:  Demonstrated work product accuracy.  Effective oral/written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to comprehend actuarial concerns and other advanced statistical concepts.  Demonstrated ability to think logically and handle non-routine assignments.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office products with proficiency in EXCEL required.  VBA, SAS or other query software preferred.

This position can be staffed at the E-F band depending on experinece.

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Analyst, you’ll continue to learn more advanced actuarial methodologies and insurance concepts through reading, training sessions and work assignments. We’ll count on you to prepare loss, expense, and premium data for actuarial pricing reviews, ratemaking and/or reserving and estimate future loss and premium results.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continues to develop deeper knowledge of actuarial methodologies allowing the ability to source and manipulate more complex data within standard requirements. Estimates future loss and premium results.

  • Conducts analyses that adheres to actuarial standards by selecting appropriate data sources and making assumptions to develop recommendations. Will note and suggest potential resolution to any unreasonable results and report to leader.

  •  Documents assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion

  • Prepares and presents actuarial support findings and documents that are suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Adheres to assigned work schedule to ensure timely completion of individual tasks and group projects. Notifies leadership anticipating of any possible missed deadlines and possible impact.

  • Performs peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work, and drive innovation

  • Continues to develop relationships across PC multi-channel finance. Begin developing relationships in other areas of finance to gain business acumen.

  • Assists with onboarding and training new associates on standard work processes.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Actuarial leader

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis

Experience: Generally, three years related experience in an actuarial and statistical support role.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Basic understanding or ability to learn Microsoft Office products, analytical software and programming languages. Should have basic competencies including business understanding, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results and learning ability.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
